Five-Week
Prenatal Class

The five week course will allow for a more in-depth discussion of the topics. We will have more hands on activities and flexibility of topics covered in detail.
  Week one

  • Healthy living in pregnancy- nutrition, exercise, relaxation
  • Overview of normal labor and birth
  • Preterm labor and other concerns
  Week two
  • First stage of labor
  • Early and active labor comfort measures
  • Creating a support team/doulas
  • Second and third stage of labor
  • Pushing positions/techniques
  • Normal postpartum experience for mom/baby
  Week three
  • Communicating with caregiver
  • Birth planning
  • Variations of normal labour and medical interventions
  • Comfort measures for challenging birth
  • Medications in labor
  • Cesarean section
  • Strategies for minimizing interventions
  Week four
  • Normal newborn behaviors and abilities
  • Breastfeeding
  Week five
  • Postpartum adjustment
  • Basic baby care
  • Newborn and new parent guest appearance
  • Due date just around the corner? The one-day course is great for parents who do not have time to attend a five week session, or 2nd time parents wanting a refresher. It will cover all the same topics but with a little less opportunity for hand-on activities.
  • This 3.5hr class will explore the realities of bringing home a newborn and what parenting will be like during the first 3 months. Topics include: Emotions, Sleep, Safety, Newborn care, Balancing workload, Relationship changes, Building a social network, and coffee chat with a new family--hear about a new family's real experience with having a baby.
